Lynn’s Story

young Lynn on a farm with a cow

Lynn Honnold

Lynn grew up as one of eight kids on a family farm in Foley, MN. She began working in the outdoors, helping out her dad, Gene. Whether it was with the soybean crops or the Simmental beef cattle, Lynn loved spending most of her time in nature. Lynn went on to complete her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and later graduated with her Master’s in Education in Family Systems from the University of Minnesota.

She currently teaches FACS classes relating to culinary foods and child development. Lynn’s background in education enables her to provide comprehensive guidance to her clients, teaching them the skills they need to work effectively in their own gardens.

As Lynn began working as a Family and Consumer Science teacher, her love for gardening and learning compelled her to apply to be a Master Gardener. In 1999, after three months of classes and 50 hours of volunteering, she completed her certificate. She spent most of her volunteering time at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in their Q&A booth. There, she developed extensive knowledge of plants and gardening. This love for gardening would eventually lead her to create Esker Ridge Gardens.
